Elves We Need, and Elves We Don’t

Elves. One of the founding player races in Dungeons & Dragons, they’ve always been a source of consternation for me, while at the same time being one of my top five favourite non-human, non-monstrous player races. But they have a convoluted history with a lot of internal inconsistencies in D&D, and one that is becoming more convoluted with the upcoming release of Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes. 4e D&D, the After Action Review

It is safe to say, without much doubt, that the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons (4e D&D) is the most contentious edition of the game ever to issued by either TSR or Wizards of the Coast (WotC). It was also the shortest-lived edition since the game made the leap from the 1974 “Original D&D” to Basic and 1st Edition in 1977, lasting only four years (2008-2012) before work on its replacement started. The numbers are coming in, and the Scarlett Johannson headlined Ghost in the Shell live action film is taking a boot to the teeth. [1][2][3] While some critics have given it the inevitable puffy reviews that get splashed across advertisements for it, the majority who are in the know about the original property it was based on have panned it. So where did the film go wrong, and is the whitewashing controversy really the only reason this film lost on its opening weekend to a CGI animated talking baby?

RIP Sleepy Hollow

SH RIPSleepy Hollow was a series that started with an amazing amount of promise. Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane, in a decently built if predictable biblical supernatural thriller. Sure, the show grated at times, and the hero worship of the American Founding Fathers and demonization of the British was painful almost constantly, but it worked. The chemistry between the two was amazing, and a tight storyline brought it all home. Then, the series shit the bed, and didn’t stop until they all be destroyed the franchise, which brings us to today.
