2023 was a wild year.
After becoming a full-time nerd in 2022, 2023 is the first full year that this has been my main occupation. 2023’s biggest achievement was completing the Aquatic Summer series event, marking the first successful themed event for the site. And I think the biggest stumble was poor time estimation/management, where I tried to achieve more than was possible owing to other responsibilities and events.
Articles were up over all, with over 30 posted. Views were down from 2022, but I think a significant part of that was a loss of traffic from Twitter as Elon’s policies took effect and dramatically reduced my footprint and reach there; I think that I’ll see views stabilize this year at around 36k to 40k. Something big to me was the Discord taking off this year. The POCGamer discord has historically been pretty quiet, but this year it exploded with activity and it’s been great and above all, healthy!
Lessons Learned:
– Having a project tracker is absolutely key to success.
– Planning sheets are gold.
– Everything takes longer than I think it does.
– Wildfires still suck.
– People actually like underwater stuff in RPGS!
– Picking up new skills with software is challenging but not impossible!
So moving forward into 2024, I’m taking into account everything I’ve learned so far and I’m aiming to build on the foundations of 2023’s successes. Thank you all for your support, let’s keep this going!
