  1. I’d just like to point out that not only is this “advice” offensive, it’s just flat-out *wrong*.

    The SFF community, and all major professional SFF publications I am aware of, are screaming for diverse protagonists and characters of underrepresented, and non-North American groups, and they’re going the extra kilometer to find stuff by diverse writers of underrepresented groups. I just recently was asked to manage the SFWA official YouTube channel. I’m hardly an insider or an expert, but I’m close enough to the action that I think I have a pretty clear view of it.

    I urge emerging writers not to self-edit their diverse characters and cultures because “business.” It’s not necessary. The industry welcomes you.
